CRE-DITS
CRE-DITS study (Carbapenem Resistant Enterobacterales Descriptive Infection Trainee Study)
CRE-DITS is a UK-wide multicentre audit aiming to describe the laboratory testing practises and resistance profiles of carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales (CRE) to new and older antimicrobials among multiple NHS Trusts in the United Kingdom.
The audit will collect information on bacterial isolates only. The inclusion criterion is all non-duplicate Enterobacterales resistant to meropenem or imipenem or ertapenem isolated in any clinical culture of a participating site within the project period (01/10/2023 – 30/9/2024). Data on carbapenemase testing methods and antimicrobial susceptibility testing performed will be collected.
Findings will help to better understand the epidemiology and laboratory testing of CRE in the UK, as well as create a national CRE antibiogram, which is currently lacking from the ESPAUR report.
All trainees in infection specialties (including doctors, clinical scientists, pharmacists etc) are welcome to contribute. In NHS Trusts that do not have infection trainees, consultants or other junior doctors are welcome to contribute. We are hoping to engage the majority of NHS Trusts in the UK. The project is expected to publish its findings in a medium impact factor infection journal. All contributors will be offered authorship.
The study protocol can be found here.
