PET IE UK

PET-IE UK: Positron Emission Tomography in Infective Endocarditis across the United Kingdom

PET-IE UK is a UK-wide multicentre audit evaluating the utilisation and clinical impact of PET/CT in the diagnosis and management of infective endocarditis (IE) and cardiac device-related infections (CIED) across NHS Trusts.

This project aims to describe real-world practice, including how PET/CT influences diagnostic classification, treatment decisions, and detection of extracardiac infection, and to explore variation in its use across centres in the UK.

Who can take part?

All UK centres managing patients with suspected or confirmed IE or CIED infection are encouraged to participate.

Data collection is designed to be simple and time-efficient, with each site contributing up to 15 eligible cases.

Further details, including the study protocol and data collection materials, will be shared upon registration. Updates will also be available via the NITCAR website.

Data and authorship

All data will be collected in an anonymised format. Participating centres contributing data will be recognised under a collaborative authorship model in line with NITCAR and ICMJE guidance.

Additional information

The data collection process is expected to take approximately 20 minutes per case. No prior experience with PET/CT interpretation is required.
